Book Review: Power of a Praying Wife
-
Time and time again I am asked two questions, “What can I do for my husband and/or my marriage?” and “Can you recommend a good book for me to read?” My answer is always “Pray” and read Stormie Omartian’s book Power of a Praying Wife. Omartian says, “Worrying about your marriage changes nothing….praying about it can change everything.”

During the hardest season of our marriage, by Divine direction, my sweet mother-in-law gave me this book. I began to read it chapter by chapter, and read aloud each powerful prayer found at the end of that chapter. Little did I know what the Lord was doing, and how he was preparing me for what would lay ahead. The book is broken down into thirty chapters with each chapter focusing on key areas of a man’s life. But get ready, because the very first area is his wife! The next twenty nine short chapters include his spiritual walk, his work, his mind, and his self-image. Each chapter concludes with a prayer and is followed by “Power Tools” which are verses that encourage us as “wives to rest in the assurance of God’s wonderful promises of restoration, renewal, and growth in marriage”.
I truly believe the Lord used this book in a powerful way in my life, and I highly recommend it whether your marriage needs restoration or growth. Letting your husband know that you care about every area of his life will bring encouragement and assurance that he greatly needs. Take the thirty areas Omartian lays out and pray over one each day for thirty days and watch what God can do! Power of a Praying Wife can be found at any Christian bookstore or online. Omartian is also the author of Power of a Praying Parent, Just Enough Light for the Step I’m On, and many other books on prayer.
